How loan repayments are worked out
Repayment = amount × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)^−months)
The APR includes the interest and any compulsory fees, so it is the fairest way to compare loans. A longer term lowers the monthly repayment but raises the total interest.
Worked example
Borrowing £10,000 at 7.9% APR over 5 years costs £200.99 a month. Over 60 payments you repay £12,059.19, so the loan costs £2,059.19 in interest.
